I'm really quite excited as I've just booked a flight to Dunedin, returning from Queenstown for this June. I haven't been to Queenstown since I was 6 years old and all I remember is the jet boat ride. I believe I fell off the seat during one of the turns and it being awesome and a wee bit scary. Now I'm a lot older it'll be fantastic to see some of my country that my backpacker friends are always going on about!
Flights plus a bus between the two cities cost $211.50 including travel insurance. Not half bad...going to Samoa was actually cheaper but it's still affordable. I'll be staying in a backpackers in central Dunedin to keep costs down. With two nights there I'm planning to;
- Do a tour of the peninsula to see yellow-eyed penguins, royal albatross', seals and fingers crossed a royal spoonbill.
- Visit Lanarch Castle.
- Have a beer at the Speights Brewery.
- And depending on the cost of getting out there, arrange a visit to Flagstaff Alpacas to spend too much money on gorgeous yarns.
Then I'll take a bus to Queenstown. The four hour ride has set me back $3.50. That's what I pay to get to work each day. I'm not too fussed on what I do in Queenstown as I'll be with my parents. A spot of wine tasting is the only must and mum wants to go to the Tin Goose Cafe which will draw no arguments from me! I also want to pay the casino a visit one night as I've never actually been to one. I won't be doing any expensive adventure activities as I've done my sky dive and bungy. Rather put that money in my yarn budget :-)
